Frequently asked questions

What is purchasing power parity (PPP)?
PPP compares what money actually buys in different countries. A PPP index of 0.5 means goods and services cost about half of what they cost in the United States, so the same dollar income stretches twice as far.
Where does the data come from?
Real price-level figures from the World Bank, IMF World Economic Outlook, OECD, and the Penn World Table, refreshed at build time. The default 'consensus' source is the per-country median across the GDP-based providers.
Why do the sources disagree?
Providers use different baskets, reference years, and methodologies. The cross-source comparison view shows the spread; a tight spread means high confidence in the figure.
Can AI agents use this calculator?
Yes — the same math is exposed as a free JSON API at /api/calculate.json and declared as an MCP tool (calculate_ppp) in /.well-known/mcp.json. No API key is required.

Built for AI agents

Every capability on this site is callable without parsing HTML: deterministic JSON APIs (CORS-enabled, no key), a machine-readable capability index at /llms.txt, and an MCP manifest at /.well-known/mcp.json declaring 9 tools (calculate_ppp, calculate_wage_bands, find_meeting_slot, compare_contract, select_region, find_fire_locations, check_travel_residency, rank_livability, find_nomad_visas). The DOM carries data-agent-* hints for headless-browser agents.
